The Vacation Project

Rich and I have had a lot of driving time recently. Driving might be boring to some people, but not people who are married to a Richard Stubbs.

*Ahem*

I happen to be that lucky person. :0) Just rubbing it in.

Imagine this:

You're staring slack-jawed at the road in front of you--just like your driver's ed teacher told you NOT to do--as you squint through the smashed raindrops on your windshield. Without a moment's notice your passenger turns to you and says, "let's write a book."

So you spend the rest of the 2 hour drive (it actually ends up being a 2 and a half hour drive because you miss the exit...) excitedly "plotting your plot" and figuring out the ins and outs of your characters and their adventures.

You try to get into your character's minds and motives and feelings. Best car trip ever!

And of course there is no way to get it all hashed out right then and there so you excitedly talk about your new creation every time you get in the car. Suddenly you find driving time to be more productive than ever before! Not only do you get somewhere geographically but your plot is getting somewhere, too.

And all over again you're a kid--making up stories and games and starring in every adventure. You feel younger than you have in weeks or months or even years.

And it makes you happy. So you blog about it.

:0)

Sure...that's the reason why you missed the exit. You guys have been known to miss entire states in your past road trips.
